Engineering vs styling…

Here is the new Gumpert Apollo Arrow…. which is one of the most perfect examples of why you should always hire a good car stylist to design your new car! Compared to the original Apollo, it has the same function, but improved styling. That is car design.

  1. I think stylist and designing cars are very attractive. This is a triumph of ‘styling’ over design. Great cars are designed, not styled. I sometimes choose over function, that’s why I like car styling.

  2. Are you both engineers? Somewhere in the middle would be great design actually, newest version probably over-styled but I prefer it to the very ugly original. I sometimes choose aesthetics over function, that’s why I like car styling. It’s a great debate though.

  3. The original design looks so much better… The new one looks like it’s trying to fit in with a P1 and a new Ford gt

    1. Of course it is, because those are the benchmarks in its class. La Ferrari too. It needs to appeal to the customers of those cars so the designer must produce a design at least as good as those. This is the nature of commercial business, and it’s why Gumpert failed.

  4. You have to be kidding! That is hideous. It was pretty bad before, but the new ‘design’ is a complete disaster. Utterly hideous with gimmick piled upon gimmick. This is a triumph of ‘styling’ over design. Great cars are designed, not styled.
